Forming in the early nineties, this company set out to become a leader in intensive livestock production, establishing an extensive breeding system and developing a contract grower network. As a fully integrated company with its own boning room, cooking capability and manufacturing plant, the company produces a range of small goods, fresh ready tray packs of pork cuts, sausages, mince, hams and bacon for sale in supermarkets and delicatessens in Victoria and interstate. In the early 2000s, the company embarked on implementing a key sales and marketing strategy with 3 broad phases that have been fundamental in moving the company from being a commodity agribusiness to a value-added company.


Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the General Manager (Farming Operations) will be responsible and accountable for all activities relating to farming, to ensure business and profitability growth objectives are met. This will be achieved alongside other key members of the senior management team reporting to the CEO.

The General Manager will be required to provide strong leadership to staff across all farming operations, and in important areas such as farm development, animal welfare, irrigation application / pest management, grain purchase, training, transport and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership, mentor and guide staff
  • Implement financial controls and manage KPIs
  • Manage procurement and contract arrangements
  • Communicate production and farm efficiency data to the CEO/Board
  • Ensure WH&S compliance across all farming operations
  • Ensure properties are maintained to the highest biosecurity, animal welfare and environmental standards

Education and Experience

  • Strong staff leadership capabilities and executive management experience
  • Capable of motivating and developing others
  • Sound business acumen and ability to drive P&L performance
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Capable of managing a complex chain of relationships
  • Demonstrated experience with cost and purchasing management
  • Highly motivated to deliver results
  • Degree qualified in agriculture, agribusiness, business or related field
