Job Description

This Company was established in 1969 when the owner started clearing a bush block 110km East of Esperance. Over the years it has grown and now includes the second generation in ownership and in management of the business.

The company owns and manages an aggregation of properties 90km East of Esperance. The crop rotation on the 30,000ha includes 19,500ha cropped annually to canola, wheat and barley producing approximately 50,000t of grain. The remaining area is sown to pasture, to support 2,400 breeding cows and 24,000 ewes. The farm also runs its own lime pit to supply lime for their own use and to the local area.


In this newly created role, the focus will be to fully implement Precision Ag technology to improve drainage and optimise production. The Cropping Operations Manager will be responsible for accurate paddock mapping so as to automate the current seeding, spray and harvest programs. This role will support to the operations management team and provide leadership during peak seasonal activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise RTK technology, paddock mapping and other precision ag technologies
  • Plan, prepare and develop an effective drainage program
  • Implement the optimal use of autonomous spray programs
  • Analyse data including biomass and yield etc. to implement improvements in the cropping program.
  • Assist in planning, preparation and integration of the annual cropping plan
  • Supervise a harvest operations team including grain testing, storage and handling
  • Record-keeping and monthly reporting of all field activities
  • Liaison with consultants and suppliers

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Precision Ag, Trimble RTK and paddock mapping
  • Sound understanding of surface drainage programs in cereal or cotton production
  • Previous experience with large-scale cropping enterprise
  • Leadership experience of larger teams
  • Strong administrative and numeracy skills
  • Highly motivated with a willingness to adopt new management practices


  • Post-secondary qualifications in Agriculture Science or Farm Management would be advantageous but not necessary
  • Unrestricted Drivers Licence.


An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated to reflect skills and experience. In addition, on-farm accommodation in a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with all utilities paid for will be included.
