Located in the Northern Midlands of Tasmania, Kingston is a 3000ha farming operation producing Superfine Merino wool and prime lambs. This progressive business integrates wool production with the sustainable management of native grasslands. It has developed important links with world-class wool processors and a national menswear retailer creating joint marketing initiatives for their wool.


In a hands-on capacity, the Farm Manager’s prime function will be to manage the day-to-day operations of the enterprise, adopting sustainable farming practices for implementing the annual farm operating plan and budget in the absence of the owner. The key objectives of this role will be to maintain long term production goals and increase carrying capacity and profitability, whilst also maintaining a commitment to improve the overall aesthetics of the property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the livestock program
  • Supervision of casual staff and contractors
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in a safe and timely manner
  • Monitor animal health and feeding requirements
  • Document and report on all livestock breeding and paddock records
  • Supervise the production of livestock to achieve volume, quality and cost objectives
  • Conduct property developments including fencing, water and pasture improvements
  • Support the owners in implementing best practice methods to improve the overall biodiversity and sustainability of the property

Skills and Experience

  • Good practical experience in livestock husbandry with an emphasis on superfine wool production
  • Previous experience monitoring animal health
  • Sound mechanical knowledge and property maintenance experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient skills in MS office programs and proven experience utilising and implementing digital farm management software
  • Ability to work unsupervised


  • Post-secondary qualification/s in agriculture or similar are preferred
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Current firearms licence
  • Certification in ChemCert, Chainsaw, First Aid
  • Trained working dogs essential
