Job Description

Company

Family owned and operated since 1982, this mixed farming operation is comprised of approximately 2,600ha of varied terrain. Utilising the river flats, 40ha of Lucerne under centre pivot irrigation has been implemented to increase fodder production. The property has a commercial breeding focus on Angus cattle and Dohne sheep.

Position

Under the direction of the Owner, the Livestock Overseer will be responsible for assisting in the management of the livestock program along with daily supervision of all staff and contractors and ensuring all operations are conducted in a timely and safe manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the livestock program as developed by the company
  • Daily supervision of all staff and contractors
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in a timely and safe manner
  • Monitor animal health and feeding requirements
  • Document and report on all livestock breeding and paddock records
  • Supervise the production of livestock to achieve volume, quality and cost objectives
  • Assist in property development through fencing and pasture improvement
  • Support the Owner in implementing best practice methods aimed at improving the overall biodiversity and sustainability of the property

Skills and Experience

  • Good practical experience in livestock husbandry with sheep and cattle
  • Previous experience monitoring animal health
  • Sound mechanical knowledge and property maintenance experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Ability to work unsupervised

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary qualification/s in agriculture or similar are preferred
  • Current driver’s licence (HR licence preferred)
  • Certification in ChemCert, Chainsaw, First Aid, & FEL operation would be advantageous
  • Properly trained working dogs would be an advantage
