Our Client

This family operated intensive-piggery is currently running a 550-sow operation at Trafalgar, VIC. The business operates with the goal of being recognised as a leader in pig production and a preferred producer of premium pork in Australia. They are involved in several Australia wide benchmarking groups to ensure they are producing at industry best-practice levels, remain competitive and as a way to continuously improve.

Furthermore, this progressive business is currently transitioning to methane capture and power generation to power their site and secure their future.

Position

Reporting directly to the Farm Manager, the Production Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the 550-sow piggery to achieve the goals of the business. They will lead and manage the piggery team and assist with monthly reports and general operations across the farm.

Key Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Farm Manager, oversee all pig production matters
  • Organise and lead the implementation of sustainable management and animal welfare practices
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to staff to achieve desired goals and ensure production targets are achieved
  • Staff management, including rostering, conflict resolution and training
  • First point of call for production issues and breakdown issues
  • Conduct management and maintenance of buildings
  • Bio-Gas daily checks and maintenance management
  • Data entry and production level monitoring, benchmarking and data analysis,
  • Development of standard operation procedures and guides

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of intensive pig production and/or other relevant animal production systems
  • Ability to identify and implement processes and practices to improve productivity
  • Ability to be flexible and not get stressed under pressure
  • Mechanically minded
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong leadership experience from managing or supervising a team
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary qualifications in animal production are desirable but not essential
